Everyone in my family is a big fan of naan. You can use the broiler to make the naan but you can get great results using stove top.
Kids and Hubby always are asking me to make this.
Rest Time: 45 minutes
Makes : 4 naans
Ingredients:
All purpose flour/maida: 1.5 cups
Dry yeast : 1/2 tsp
Warm water: 1/4 cup
Sugar : 1 tsp
Oil : 1 tbsp
Water : 50 ml
Salt to taste
Butter : To smear on the naan
Method:
Take the 1/4 cup of warm water, add sugar and dry yeast and mix. Let it sit for 7-8 minutes for the yeast to raise.
Take the maida, salt and oil, toss well. Add the raised yeast, add water and make a soft dough.
Cover with a damp cloth and rest it for at least 45 minutes. (If you are living in a cold place, put it inside the oven with the light on). The dough will be double the size, punch it down.
Make the dough into 4 equal portions, roll them into an oval shape. Wet the top surface.
Heat the tava or pan, place the wet side down and cook for 1 minute. Turn and cook for 1 minute. Take off the tava, put it directly on heat for 10-15 seconds each or until you see black spots. Put the naan back on the tava, smear butter on both sides and serve hot with curry.
