Bhatura is a deep fried bread looks similar to Puru but much more thicker and bigger in size. It's made out of Maida/All Purpose flour.
This quick Bhatura is the one where the dough doesn't take a long time to rise. So, if you are craving for Bhatura's, you can make them in 30 minutes without leaving the house.I will post the traditional Bhatura recipe soon which takes the dough to rest 4-5 hours.
Chole is the best combination that goes with Bhatura. Here is the link to that recipe.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Dough Resting Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 minutes per Bhatura
Serves: 4-5
Ingredients:
Maida/All purpose flour: 3 cups
Curd/Yogurt : 1/4 cup ( room temperature)
Baking Soda: 1/2 teaspoon
Sugar : 2 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Oil : 2 tablespoons
Warm Milk : 3/4 cup
Method:
Take the flour and make a well in the middle and all ingredients except milk and mix. Add milk slowly and knead into a soft dough, it should be chapati dough consistency.
Add 1/2 tablespoon of oil if needed on the top and rub over the dough if it's too dry.
Let the dough rest in a warm place for 30 minutes covered with a wet cloth.
Take the dough and make the size little bigger than a golf ball.
Roll them into round Bhatura's. 7-8" diameter.
Heat oil for deep frying and fry the Bhatura's on both sides until they are golden brown.
(When you first drop the Bhatura in the oil, gently press it with a spatula so it puffs up really well)
Serve hot with Chole or any other gravy curry.
